In genere non sono ricoperti con TiN, la loro superficie, come si può capire dalla foto, deve essere finita con lappatura o con sistemi che garantiscano una bassissima rugosità. Solo in questo modo si possono ottenere rendimenti accettabili. Questi utensili possono essere affilati riducendoli di spessore.
